Le autorità federali statunitensi dichiarano guerra ai serpenti esotici che minaccerebbero l'ecosistema locale. 'Sottotiro' sarebbero il Pitone della Birmania e altre otto specie di grandi rettili. Il segretario all'Interno, Ken Salazar ha riferito che questi animali importati negli Usa, spesso scappano o vengono liberati nella natura e questo mette a rischio ecosistemi delicati come ad esempio le Floridas Everglades. Salazar ha annunciato la proposta di mettere al bando l'importazione di serpenti attraverso il John F. Kennedy International Airport di New York che, ha detto Salazar, è il principale punto di ingresso per la fauna selvatica negli Stati Uniti. La proposta sarà sottoposta a un dibattito pubblico prima della decisione finale. Le nove specie interessate dal bando includono Boa Constrictor, l'Anaconda verde e quella gialla.
